Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Everything you’ve been wondering—answered.

Do you take insurance? How does billing work?

We are an out-of-network provider, which means we do not bill insurance directly. However, we provide superbills—detailed invoices with the necessary information for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

Invoices for services are sent via our secure portal. Payment is typically due at the time of service unless otherwise arranged. We’re happy to help walk you through the superbill process if you’re unfamiliar with it!

We specialize in comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and young adults. Our process includes:

  • A detailed intake appointment to understand concerns and history
  • Parent/caregiver interviews and possible use of the ADI-R (for autism assessments)
  • Questionnaires for caregivers, teachers, and sometimes the client
  • Consultation with other providers and possible school observations
  • In-person testing sessions tailored to the referral question
  • Scoring, analysis, and interpretation of all data
  • A collaborative feedback session with a written report and personalized recommendations

We work closely with families to ensure the process is thorough, thoughtful, and supportive.

Yes, we do! We understand that misdiagnosis is not uncommon, especially when symptoms overlap between conditions (such as ADHD and anxiety, or autism and trauma).

At Starleaf Psychological Services, we pride ourselves on
detailed, individualized assessments that go beyond checklists—our goal is to clarify what’s really going on so that clients receive the support and services that best fit their needs. Whether it’s a second opinion or a re-evaluation after several years, we’re happy to help.

Great question! While both serve an important purpose, they are very different in depth and scope:

  • IEP (Individualized Education Program) Evaluations are conducted by public schools to determine if a student qualifies for special education services. These are typically brief, focused assessments based on eligibility criteria—not clinical diagnosis.

  • A Comprehensive Psychological Evaluation, like what we offer at Starleaf, is a full diagnostic workup. We assess cognitive, academic, emotional, behavioral, and sometimes neurological functioning to provide clinical diagnoses (if appropriate) and detailed recommendations for home, school, and therapeutic support. These evaluations can help inform IEP or 504 Plan meetings—but go far beyond what schools typically provide.
